GROUPS (FOLLOW LINKS TO RECORDINGS)

In addition to his work as a solo pianist, Steve enjoys performing with other musicians. Musical collaboration (especially when it involves improvisation) is like a conversation — a chance to share ideas, to react to one another, to support one another, and to celebrate our differences and similarities. Steve's interactions include those with artists beyond Eugene's borders, such as Norwegian violinist Rune Borgir and members of the Amelia Piano Trio as well as local artists. Follow the links below to find out more about some of these collaborations.

STEVE LARSON TRIO — with bassist Mark Schneider and drummer Jason Palmer — is a classic jazz piano trio, always melodically based, harmonically inventive, and rhythmically engaging.

JAZZ PIANO COLLECTIVE is a group of pianists — Steve Larson (Eugene), Henry Martin (New York City), Steve Strunk (Washington DC), and Keith Waters (Denver) — that performs the full spectrum of jazz styles, including improvisations as well as their own note-to-note transcriptions of famous recordings, such as Bill Evans' multi-piano overdubs.

BLUE SONJA — performs an eclectic blend of jazz standards, Latin ballads, Beatles tunes, and pop songs by Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Cyndi Lauper, The Magnetic Fields, and more.

DON LATARSKI — Steve Larson and Don Latarski really are on the same page — click on the link to find out more.

AFTERHOURS-JAZZ — Musical theater and jazz standards come to life when Marieke Schuurs sings with Steve.

TORCH SONGS — Cynthia Beal and Steve Larson's CD Torch Songs offers traditional ballad jazz in a lush romantic style reminiscent of the '40's late-night supper-club era.

PORTFOLIO — with flutist Cynthia Folio (Philadelphia), bassist Ed Wise (Philadelphia), and Harrell Bosarge (Nashville) — is a CD on the Nebula label (a division of Centaur Records).
